Camping

The vast desert sky lights up at night with galaxies of stars above you whether you choose to camp in the pine-topped mountains, along the shoreline, or among towering desert rock formations. Mohave County features places where you can rest your head at night including tent camping, boat camping, RV camping and dispersed camping. 

Hualapai Mountains

The forested Hualapai Mountains rise just beyond Route 66 in Kingman. With ample wildlife and the Hualapai Mountain Lodge, this region provides the only forest meets desert views in Mohave County. 

Hualapai Mountain Park, operated by Mohave County Parks, offers reservations for tent camping, RV camping, and cabins, along with recreation sites, a disc golf course, and an abundance of hiking trails. Nearby, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management offers paid overnight stays on a first-come, first-serve basis at Wild Cow Springs Campground

Bullhead City

Bullhead City is situated along the shoreline of the Arizona side of the Colorado River, while the casinos of Laughlin line the Nevada side of the river. Bullhead City is in close proximity to Lake Mead and Lake Mohave. 

Davis Camp, operated by Mohave County Parks, lines the shores of the Colorado River and offers tent, RV camping, vacation homes and watercraft launching. 

At Lake Mohave Marina, Katherine Landing is the official camping concessionaire of the National Park Service. The destination offers tent, RV camping, lodging and vacation rentals all within the marina.

Lake Havasu City

Lake Havasu City is home to the relocated London Bridge from the River Thames with plentiful parks and a vibrant Downtown District, the city is host to more than 400 annual events. 

Lake Havasu State Park is the most visited state park in Arizona with shoreline cabins, and RV and tent camping. 

Cattail Cove State Park is located about 15 miles south of Lake Havasu City featuring quiet beaches and hiking trails.

AZ Strip

Virgin River Canyon Recreation Area is managed by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management and it is the only fee-based campground in Northern Mohave County. 

BLM Dispersed Camping Areas

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management provides fee-based campsites and free dispersed dry camping areas that do not require a permit. The dispersed areas do not have any amenities and the maximum stay is 14 days per area.

In addition to the listed campsites, the Lake Havasu City Field Office oversees dispersed camping for: 

  • Craggy Wash: The unmaintained entry road is next to the Lake Havasu City Airport, about 0.4 miles north of London Bridge Road near The Shops at Lake Havasu.
  • Standard Wash: The off-highway vehicle (OHV) area is just south of Lake Havasu City along Arizona Highway 95. 

Overnight on a Boat

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management, Lake Havasu Field Office manages 73 shoreline campsites all south of Lake Havasu on the Colorado River. There is no overnight camping in Topock Gorge, which is managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
